COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Civil War Days Memorial Weekend Committee was the recipient of a $1200 grant for their annual Civil War Days event, held in Coldwater every Memorial Day weekend. The monetary contribution was part of the 23rd annual grant cycle for the Branch County Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council.
The weekend long event has grown throughout the 12 years of its existence, and it now reaches residents beyond Branch County including St. Joseph, Hillsdale and Calhoun Counties. Their education day thispast May 26th drew in approximately 1,000 school children.
This year the entire weekend was full of different events that stretched beyond the historical reenactments. Events included the education day for all surrounding schools, a train ride with President Lincoln and a train robbery at the Little River Railroad, a Military ball, a concert with local musician Jim Dyer, and much more.
