COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Griffin Olmstead scored a pair of touchdowns from 18 yards out as the Coldwater Cardinals opened the 2017 season with a dominating 27-0 victory over Lewis Cass of Indiana on Friday night at Cardinal Field. Coldwater opened the scoring with a first quarter 34 yard TD pass from Damon Beckhusen to Brady Beckhusen. Olmstead’s first TD gave Coldwater a 13-0 halftime lead as the Cardinals had a 211-9 edge in total yards at the intermission. Coldwater tacked on two more touchdowns in the second half. Logan Fee hit paydirt from three yards and Olmstead’s second TD of the night concluded the scoring. Coldwater plays at Marshall next Thursday night.
Even Coon recorded 15 tackles as the Quincy Orioles blanked Parchment 12-0. Quincy had 201 yards rushing. Bryce Ruhl and Jon Purvis scored the Quincy TD’s. Purvis rushed for 76 yards while Ruhl had 72 yards on 10 carries. Quincy opens Big 8 conference play next Thursday at Jonesville.
Austin Mosher rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown while quarterback Josh Watson passed for three TD’s as Union City defeated Galesburg-Augusta 24-7. Mosher accounted for the other Charger score. Gavin Hooker had 59 yards rushing on nine carries. Watson was 12 of 14 in the air for 169 yards. Larson Kever, Garrett Korn and Grady Kever had the Union City touchdown receptions. Deacon Day led the Charger defense with 11 tackles. Union City will play at Branch County rival Bronson in the Vikings Big 8 Conference debut next Thursday night.
