VICKSBURG, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater boys tennis team played in the Vicksburg Quad Saturday and finished second with 15 points, Vicksburg and Lakeshore came in first with 16 points.
Coldwater had three first place finishes in their flights. They were number three singles player Alec Keplinger, the number one doubles team of Blake Yates and Christian Pine and the number two doubles team of Noah Waterbury and Sam Morison. They each won three matches on the day. Number one singles player Porter Skidmore took second place with a pair of wins.
The number four doubles team of Zach Rigot and Will Reehl also took 2nd winning two matches. Number two singles player Kyle Kryyzanski took third.
The Coldwater tennis team has a busy week ahead. They will play Monday at Marshall, Tuesday at Pennfield and then home Thursday against Kalamzoo Central.
Girls Volleyball—
Bronson lost in the finals of the Battle Creek Lakeview as they were beaten by Notre Dame Prep 2-1 (18-25, 25-22, 8-15). The Vikings defeated Vicksburg and Buchanan while they split with Harper Creek in pool play. Bronson then defeated Kalamazoo Central and Battle Creek St. Philip to advance to the finals.
Union City hosted an invitational on Saturday. In pool play, they split with Athens (25-11, 23-25), defeated Battle Creek Central (25-20, 25-13) and lost to Centreville (20-25, 17-25). After being seeded second, the Chargers defeated Reading 2-1 (25-6, 11-25, 15-13) but lost to eventual champion Mendon 2-0 (21-25, 11-15). Mendon went 12-0 to win the tourney title. Allison Adams had 38 assists, Bracy Swift had 27 kills and 22 digs and Ava Winstone had 10 aces for the Chargers.
Quincy got to the tournament semi-finals before losing to Centreville.
Girls Golf—
Coldwater finished sixth at the 18-team Marshall Red Hawk Invitational on Friday. St. Joseph finished first with a score of 347. Coldwater shot a 380. The Lady Cards were led by Jayla Goodwin with a 92 followed by Hunter Jenkot who shot a 95, Claire Sheppard posted a 96, Kelly Warner shot a 97 and Molly Smith rounded out the scoring with a 102.
