UNON CITY, MI (WTVB) – Another well known local sportsman has past away. Following the death last weekend of fishing writer Bernie Behnke, Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Famer and former Union City Citizen of the Year Marv Carman died Tuesday at the Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence in Battle Creek at the age of 76.
Carman had a passion for cars and motor sports. He won numerous races and earned many national awards during a racing career that stretched back to the 1960’s including the USAC Rookie of the Year award.
He was inducted into the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame in 2011.
He was also very active in the Union City community and was named the Union City Citizen of the Year in 2008.
A celebration of Marv Carman’s life will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation in Union City.
Visitation will be Sunday at Lighthouse Funeral and Creamation from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Union City.
Memorials may be directed to Community Unlimited, the Union Township Friends of the Library or the American Cancer Society.
