UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A meter component that went out at a substation owned by Consumers Energy was being cited by Union City village officials as the reason behind a five hour power outage that affected the entire village on Wednesday.
The power went out just after 12 noon. Crews from the Coldwater B.P.U. and Consumers Energy assisted Village crews in getting the power back at around 5:00 p.m.
Union City’s Department of Public Works managed to keep the water wells running and sewer lift stations in operation.
Union City Fire and Police Departments assisted as well.
The power outage forced Union City Community Schools to send students home early. Elementary students were dismissed at 1:30 p.m. followed by the middle school and the high school.
