UNDATED (WTVB) – The area in southern Lower Michigan where conditions are considered abnormally dry has grown larger according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor report which was released on Thursday.
It now covers just about the entire southern half of the Lower Peninsula. The area includes Branch, Calhoun, Hillsdale and St. Joseph Counties.
The northern part of Calhoun County remains in an area that has moderate drought conditions. That area also includes all of Eaton and Ionia Counties as well as portions of Barry and Ingham Counties.
The web site www.accuweather.com says only about an inch of rain has fallen in Coldwater in September and unless there’s a huge downpour Friday or Saturday, this will be the sixth straight month of below normal rainfall. Since April 1st, Coldwater is almost 11 inches below normal rainfall amounts.
