COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The new Branch County Animal Control Shelter is now open. Numerous Branch and Hillsdale County officials were on hand Friday morning for a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The new building will serve both Branch and Hillsdale Counties, after an agreement was reached late last year.
Branch County Sheriff John Pollack said unlike in the past, the new shelter will provide humane treatment for animals.
Hillsdale County Sheriff Tim Parker said their smart phone app which links back to the Branch County Shelter can be used to locate lost animals.
Branch County Animal Control Officer Ernie Baker said the key was teamwork involving the county and the Coldwater Sunrise Rotary Club.
The new facility was needed after a fire in May 2015 heavily damaged the old Animal Control Shelter south of Quincy.
