COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Spearheaded by students and coaches at Coldwater High School, the battle against cancer goes to a new level this week. The first “Fight the Fight, Find a Cure for Cancer” fundraiser will take place throughout the week.
There are many activities planned between various teams and clubs at Coldwater High School. All proceeds raised during all events will go to Community Health Center of Branch County Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society.
During the home volleyball matches against Jackson Lumen Christi Wednesday, October 11, all volleyball players will be wearing purple uniforms with names on the back honoring loved ones who have been affected by cancer. The varsity players will also be escorting the person they are honoringThere will be a bake sale at the volleyball games.
At Thursday’s home swim meet, all swimmers will be wearing purple swim caps. Names of survivors and those in memory of will be displayed on the scoreboard. Fans will also be able to buy a purple duck for a Chuck a Duck Challenge. Tickets will be $1 each or 6 for $5 and can be purchased that night at the swim meet for a chance to win some nice prizes.
At Friday’s home varsity football game against Hastings, the Coldwater Athletic Boosters Club will be hosting a tailgate party beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Booster Club is asking for a donation and all proceeds will go towards the purple event. Charlie’s Pride will be cooking the pulled pork supplied by Butcher’s Row and Alcott Pork. Bill’s Grill House will provide the sides.
Football players will be wearing purple jerseys and will have names on the back honoring a loved one who has been affected by cancer. Anyone who purchased a football jersey will be encouraged to get their picture taken after the game with the player who wore it.
