COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An Alabama man entered guilty pleas to a pair of charges Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after police discovered a methamphetamine lab in one of the rooms at Coldwater’s Red Roof Inn last May.
52-year-old James Ashford Morris Junior entered his plea to charges of Possession of Methamphetamine and Operating and Maintaining a meth lab. All other charges will be dropped by prosecutors in exchange for the guilty pleas.
Sentencing is scheduled for November 20, 2017.
Morris was one of four suspects in the case.
Police went to the Red Roof Inn after an officer discovered suspicious pseudoephedrine purchases made by the suspects.
After officers found Morris in his vehicle, he consented to a search of his room where multiple methamphetamine components and meth were discovered.
Upon discovery of an active meth lab in an adjacent room, all of the hotel guests were evacuated and taken to other area hotels.
Additional meth labs and meth related materials were also found in the truck and hotel dumpster.
