MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – In another showdown of state ranked teams, the Coldwater High School boys soccer team fell 2-1 at Marshall Thursday night in the championship game of the Interstate 8 Conference Gold Division tournament.
The Redhawks, ranked #6 in the state in Division 2, scored twice in the first half against the #7 Cardinals. Coldwater got on the board with 6:23 to play in the game on a Nasser Nagi goal, assisted by Ahmed Saied. The Cardinals had several opportunities in the last few minutes, but couldn’t get the tying goal. Balal Nasser made four saves in goal, as the two teams were even on shots at six apiece.
It was second time this season Marshall edged the Cardinals 2-1.
Coldwater finished the regular season at 17-3-1 and 7-2 in the Interstate 8. Marshall improved to 17-2-1 and 9-0 in the conference. The Cardinals open district play at home Tuesday against Jackson Northwest.
Marshall topped Coldwater 8-0 in the JV game.
