COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Despite a slow start, the Coldwater High School boys soccer team scored six second half goals and beat Jackson Northwest 7-0 in the first round of district play Tuesday. With the win, the Cardinals advance to the semi finals and will face Mason Thursday night.
Mohamed Salem scored the lone goal of the first half, assisted by Nasser Nagi. Coldwater then scored three goals in the first seven minutes of the second half to take control of the game. Jonathan Brownell scored three of the second half goals and assisted on another. Saleh Mohammed, Mohamed Nagi, and Mohamed Saleh also scored, with assists from Shaif Ahmed, Nasser Nagi, Tyler Kooi, Ahmed Saied, and Anas Asker.
Balal Nasser made two saves in goal for his 12th shutout of the season. Coldwater outshot Northwest 23-2. The Cardinals improved to 18-3-1 on the season, tying the school record for wins in a season, set last year.
Marshall will face Charlotte in the first semifinal Thursday at 5:00 p.m. after the Redhawks beat Parma Western 2-1 and Charlotte topped Eaton Rapids 5-4 in the other first round games Tuesday.

Quincy 2, Grass Lake 1
Luke Hollenbaugh had both goals with assists by Axel Beltran and Alex Aseltine. The Orioles will face Brooklyn Columbia Central in the second semifinal match on Thursday night at the Onsted Districts. The winner will play either Onsted or Blissfield in the finals on Saturday afternoon.
