COLDWATER. MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners voted Thursday to bring forward to next weeks meeting a request from Branch County Sheriff John Pollack to have Correction Officers attend a police academy in order to gain dual certification.
The cost is $8,000 per officer, but it won’t cost the county any money. The training will be paid through funds in which the Sheriff’s Department collects $2 for each arrest. Pollack says he has two officers who are interested in dual certification. Training for one of the officers would start after the first of the year.
He said other this is done by other members of the Michigan Sheriff’s Association.
On another matter, Commissioners brought forward to Tuesdays meeting a request from Pollack to sell three vehicles. Two of the vehicles are 2008 Ford Crown Victorias which used to be squad calls.
The other is a 2004 F-150 pickup truck which used to belong to animal control.
