COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It looks to be another tight budget year for Branch County officials, although the gap between revenue and expenses is getting smaller.
Administrator Bud Norman presented a third draft of the county’s 2018 general fund budget during Thursday’s county commissioners work session, which showed the deficit has been trimmed to $1.2 million.
At this point, the proposed budget has about $13.5 million in expenses and over $12.3 million in revenues.
Norman said the figure for expenses was not a solid number. There are 37 departments in the general fund budget and Norman said basically at this time, there is not enough money to go around.
He said pension funding is among the challenges the county is facing.
The first draft of the county’s 2018 general fund budget presented last month showed a deficit of $4.3 million.
