COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Sheriff John Pollack presented figures to County Board of Commissioners Tuesday about the average number of prisoners they are now housing.
The Sheriff said between 2009 and 2012 the average daily count was 113. That went up to 135 from 2013 until last year.
The average count so far in 2017 is 134 and it’s expected to go up before the end of the year.
Pollack said the projected board and care cost for 2017 is going to be over $436,000 which is an increase of over $87,000 from 2016 and it’s more than doubled from four years ago.
In other business, the commissioners approved a request from the prosecutors office to hire a part time secretary-clerk at 28 hours per week at a pay rate of $11.94 an hour.
They also approved a request from the Sheriff’s Department to have two officers receive training for dual certification.
