UNDATED (WTVB) – Harper Creek, Jackson Lumen Christi and Mendon are the only teams with area ties who are still alive in the MHSAA Football Playoffs. Harper Creek and Lumen Christi were the top two teams in the Interstate 8 this season. The undefeated Beavers will host East Lansing Friday night in a Division 3 title game. Lumen Christi plays at Watervliet in a Division 6 regional championship game on Saturday. Mendon will also be in action on Saturday as they’ll host Climax-Scots for a regional championship in Division Eight.
Angola is experiencing the craziness that Coldwater enjoyed a couple of years ago when the Cardinals got all the way to the state semifinals. The undefeated Hornets host Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Friday night in an Class 4A regional title game.
There’s another big game in Angola on Saturday as undefeated Trine University will be trying to nail down a MIAA title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament when they host Olivet. Two brothers from Coldwater play for Trine. Freshman Sam DeMeester is a safety who has 12 tackles this season including four solo tackles. His older brother Zachary is a junior linebacker who is enjoying his best season at Trine. He has recorded 45 tackles this season including 16 solo stops and an interception.
