COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a request from Fire Chief Rich Sherman on Monday night to buy 20 new air bottles at a cost of just over $16,000.
Sherman said they are replacing 35 air bottles which are deemed to be near the end of their 15-year life cycle.
The 2017-18 fire department capital outlay line item contains $32,000 for SCBA air bottles replacement. Sherman said they plan to reapply for a FEMA Fire Act grant again next year for SCBA and air bottle replacement.
An additional 15 air bottles would be proposed for the 2017-18 budget year in addition to the grant.
Meanwhile, City Manager Keith Baker said the City has received an $8,000 offer to purchase the 1990 American LaFrance fire pumper from the Helmet Peak Fire Department of Sahuarita, Arizona. Baker said the apparatus has been marketed for over a year and this is the first offer that has been received. The City has accepted the offer and will be transferring the truck to the new owners in the near future.
