UNDATED (WTVB) – The Branch County Road Commission, the Sheriff’s Office and the Office of Emergency Management are offering tips in preparation for the upcoming winter.
State law prohibits residents or businesses from plowing snow, ice or slush onto or across roadways or highways. In addition, snow must not be piled to obstruct motorists’ vision.
Snowplows operate by pushing snow to the right. When clearing your driveway, pile the snow to the right of your driveway as you face the road. In addition, keep road shoulders clear; this will help reduce the amount of snow pushed into or in front of your driveway.
Use common sense when driving in bad weather. Be sure your windshield is clear of ice and snow, the washer fluids are full, tires have proper air pressure and tread, and your vehicle is equipped with essential emergency equipment.
Don’t attempt to pass snow plow vehicles while they are plowing and never try to pass a snow plow on the right. In addition, don’t crowd the plow as drivers have limited visibility and they cannot see directly behind their trucks.
Tim Miner from Branch County Office of Emergency Management recommends each household check their supplies of non-perishable food, water, medications and first aid supplies. Always keep handy a battery-powered flashlight along with a NOAA weather radio and portable radio, extra food and bottled water.
