COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Police say a case of domestic violence last week included the victim being choked and beaten by her long-time boyfriend, who allegedly left her unable to breathe. The woman also told officers her boyfriend threatened to kill her.
Police say the victim called 911 from the location where the incident happened at the couple’s home where they lived on Jackson Street. According to officers, it was around 10:45 p.m. Thursday when Branch County Central Dispatch was notified about the situation which led to the arrest of 44-year old Brian Michael. He was charged Friday in District Court with strangulation, a 10-year felony, and a 93-day domestic violence misdemeanor.
Police say they found the 50-year old victim with red marks, swelling, and blood on her but officers reported that she refused medical treatment. A statement from the woman indicated she and Michael had dated for nearly a decade.
Michael was released from the Branch County Jail Friday afternoon after posting a $10,000 cash or surety bond. He is due back in court for a probable cause hearing November 28, 2017.
