QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Fire Association Board has voted 6-3 to approve a request from Quincy Fire Chief Michael Sherman last to hire an emergency vehicle consultant company to provide an in depth fleet assessment.
EVR and Sherman will look at the 109 square miles in Quincy’s fire district as well as hazard buildings and other problem areas.
Sherman said in a Facebook post that the fire department’s current truck fleet will be assessed to determine if it meets safety standards, what the likely remaining life span of each piece is and if the fleet meets the needs of the communities current and future fire load.
Sherman says when the assessment is complete, they will have a solid replacement plan to go by and tighter build specifications on future trucks. He feels this will help ensure the department that they are are buying equipment built to their needs and not getting sold on extras by truck salesmen. A final report will be presented at a public meeting sometime late this winter.Eventually, the new truck will go out for bid. If things work out, a new truck will be delivered in the spring of 2019.
