OVID TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A driver who apparently had to much to drink is being blamed for a wrong way crash involving three vehicles late Friday night on southbound I-69 near Fenn Road.
Michigan State Police say the accident happened just before 11:30 p.m. when an unidentified man driving a jeep somehow headed north in the southbound lanes and collided with a semi. The driver of the semi managed to swerve enough to avoid a head on collision. The jeep hit the left rear tires and eventually wound up on its top in a ditch.
A third vehicle was also collected in the accident when it ran over a shredded tire from the semi.
Michigan State Police say the driver who allegedly caused the wreck was the only one injured and had a strong odor of alcohol at the scene. He was taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County for treatment and a blood draw before being booked at the Branch County Jail on a charge of O.W.I.
Coldwater firefighters and Lifecare Ambulance were also sent to the scene.
The accident is still under investigation.
