MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about a phone scam.
They say a resident in the Springfield area reported that someone left a voice mail saying they were an investigator and needed to speak to them.
The caller left a toll free number starting with 844. He also fixed it so it appeared his telephone number was coming from the Marshall Regional Law Enforcement Center.
The Sheriff’s Department says the scammer was trying to get money under the guise of paying off fines and costs.
They say they do not conduct business like this. If you get such a call, hang up and call your local law enforcement agency.
