COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After the mild conditions which featured several days in the 60’s last year, Old Man Winter is showing his teeth so far in 2017-2018.
Reality hit Wednesday morning following the Christmas holiday weekend as the Branch County Memorial Airport reported a low temperature of 10 degrees below zero.
Many locations in southwest Michigan reported below zero readings.
It got down to 7 below in Marshall, 4 below in Battle Creek, 5 below in Kalamazoo, 9 below in Grand Rapids and 15 below in Big Rapids.
With Michigan in the grip of this cold snap, the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division is telling people to be careful.
They’re asking residents to stay inside if possible and avoid over doing it if they have to be outside.
Watch for signs of hypothermia which include memory loss, uncontrolled shivering and exhaustion.
There’s no warm up in sight. The bitter cold weather is expected to last through the New Year’s holiday weekend and beyond.
