COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A suspect accused in a Coldwater residential break-in and alleged cocaine possession in a case from last month was arrested yesterday afternoon at the Branch County Courthouse. 19-year old Jesus Escalante-Sandoval of Coldwater is expected to be arraigned today in District Court in connection with the crimes. His preliminary bond at the time of arrest Tuesday was set at $25,000 cash or surety.
Coldwater City Police say Escalante-Sandoval was taken into custody overnight on December 23rd in the front yard of a home on East Pearl Street. The homeowner called 911 after his burglary alarm went off. According to police, the suspect was heavily intoxicated when they arrived on scene. Officers said he entered the unlocked garage and later attempted to break into the residence. Nothing was found missing. Escalante-Sandoval was booked at the county jail on a charge of minor in possession of alcohol and released on a $100 PR bond. The warrant request on the other charges was signed yesterday.
No information was available on why the suspect was at the courthouse when he was arrested late Tuesday afternoon.
