COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Vocational Education Department at the BISD is thinking about putting in interactive training for its criminal justice students who could become police officers in the future. It’s called MILO which stands for Multiple Interactive Learning/Training Objectives. Vocational Education Director Jamie Engle says it’s a computerized system that can also be used by local police departments for training.
Michigan State Police trooper Alan Fouty says the system is used to enhance critical thinking by police which is something that according to Fouty, some young officers have problems with.
Fouty mentioned the recent controversy involving a former Coldwater police officer as a reason why this training will prevent bad decisions. He emphasized it’s a learning tool, not a game because it involves the use of force.
It’s estimated the system would cost about $17,000.
