COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A variance request from the owners of the new Wings Etc. Restaurant on Coldwater’s east side was turned down by the city’s Zoning Board of Appeals on Wednesday.
They were seeking a variance on the amount of signage they can put up on the property.
Harrison Investment Properties wanted to install 367 square feet of total signage for the restaurant at 599 East Chicago but the zoning code limits the total area of site signage to 200 square feet.
The restaurant owners and the corporate office for Wings Etc. felt a sign on the southwest face of the building will help people see the direction to drive.
But the City of Coldwater Neighborhood Services Department staff recommended the request be turned down.
In their report to the ZBA, the staff felt the site’s access and visibility is similar to several other nearby sites and they also felt the applicant will have the chance to install ample signs once the signs that don’t comply with city zoning ordinances are removed.
