COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch, Hillsdale and St. Joseph Counties are no longer on the list for the Hepatitis A outbreak.
Valarie Newton from the Community Health Agency reported to the Health Board Thursday that there have been no reports of the disease for over 100 days.
Just one case has been reported in Hillsdale County since August 2016.
Three cases have been reported in Calhoun County and it was recently by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services as part of the ongoing Southeast Michigan Hepatitis A outbreak.
Since last August, the outbreak has claimed 22 lives with 692 cases reported. The state says 610 of the cases have been around the Detroit area. Statistics show nearly 82 percent of the cases reported have required hospitalization.
Health officials say the best way to help prevent getting Hepatitis A is to get a shot and practice good hygiene.
