COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The National Honor Society at Coldwater High School is stressing a new identity for their members to embrace, asking the NHS students to stand up to be leaders.
Senior Kaitlyn Colyer is this year’s president of NHS at Coldwater High, and she was a speaker at Wednesday’s meeting of the Coldwater Early Bird Exchange Club. Colyer and fellow NHS member, junior Selena Hostetler, who also addressed the club, were introduced by government instructor Brian Stevens, the Society’s teacher adviser for the past 7 years.
The Honor Society’s criteria is fourfold: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Colyer told the Exchange meeting that in regards to character, they try to encourage the NHS students to be at the top of their class in helping others, to always be kind to people in their words and deeds and to think before speaking, all in an attempt to perpetuate a good mindset that will assist the students in the future.
A special service project for the Honor Society is coming up Saturday March 24, 2018 at the Coldwater High School cafeteria. It’s a local effort based on the national organization Kids Coalition Against Hunger.
Hostetler said the project will feature 100 volunteers preparing 1,000 meal packages in one hour in assembly line fashion. The national hunger coalition will be providing the food staples and packaging at a cost of $2,800.
The local project will be funded by a Branch County Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council grant.
