COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Commission on Aging is having issues with the Burnside Senior Center heating and cooling system following a renovation project that ended last March, which they say it has led to an emergency problem with the roof.
The matter is on the agenda for the Branch County Board of Commissioners Thursday morning work session.
COA Executive Director Amy Duff says in a letter to commissioners that they have had trouble with the regulation of humidity, temperature and building pressure, and that there have been no resolutions to the problems even after they asked for help from the county last October.
About a month later, Duff says they discovered that the improperly functioning HVAC system had created such a strong pressure imbalance that the membrane of the flat roof had inflated and was damaged.
While some repairs have been made by the manufacturer of the HVAC units, Duff says final repairs have not been made and they will need an official letter from the county citing the issues that have not been rectified.
She adds time is of the essence since they are nearing the end of a one year warranty from the date of substantial completion, which was March 31, 2017.
Commissioners will decide Thursday whether or not to bring the matter forward to next Tuesday’s regular meeting.
