COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As expected, with the Winter Storm Warning and the prediction of heavy snow, all schools in Branch County are closed Friday.
That includes Coldwater, Quincy, Bronson, Union City, the Branch Intermediate School District, Pansophia Academy, St Mary’s Assumption, and St Charles Borromeo.
The calls for closings and cancellations came flooding in Thursday night at about 9:30 p.m..
Branch County Administrator Bud Norman reported that all of the Branch County offices will be closed on Friday.
This storm is being called Winter Storm Mateo. The National Weather Service says heavy snow with total accumulations of seven to 12 inches are expected with the heaviest amounts across southern Michigan. The Winter Strom Warning is now in effect until 7:00 p.m. Friday.
Michigan State Police are urging people to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. Basically, if you don’t have to drive, stay where you are. If you must travel, plan on difficult conditions which will include reduced visibilities.
In anticipation of the big storm, residents jammed grocery stores on Thursday as they got to hunker down and ride out the bad weather.
