COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a bid of over $147,000 from E.T. MacKenzie Company of Grand Ledge Monday night for the removal of the Old U.S. 12 bridge. E.T. MacKenzie had the low bid of the six that were submitted to the city.
Engineering Project Coordinator Sarah Fronczak and City Manager Keith Baker indicated that while a pedestrian bridge would not be affordable right now, it will be looked at in the future.
Work on removing the nearly 100 year old bridge is scheduled to start later this month. It was closed to pedestrian traffic last August after it was determined following an inspection that the bridge was unsafe. The bridge had been closed to vehicle traffic for many years.
