COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Thick, dense rolling fog dropped visibilities to less than a quarter mile and closed school for students in the Coldwater, Bronson and Quincy school districts Thursday.
Mother Nature has been no friend to local educators recently. In addition to Thursday’s fog day, students had two days of classes cancelled last week due to snow.
A Dense Fog Advisory was issued for Branch County and the surrounding area by the National Weather Service.
It was originally scheduled to expire at mid morning but was later extended until 12 noon as the thick fog refused to lift. The advisory was then extended until 5:00 p.m.
The fog was caused by matching temperatures and dew points in the low 40’s. The melting snow also raised the humidity to 100 percent.
