COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Three Branch County wrestlers won Division Four Michigan High School Athletic Association regional titles Saturday. Bronson’s Ben Modert won the 103 pound title while Chase Gibson took the championship at 215 pounds at the Hudson regional. Union City’s Colton Johns won the 171 pound championship at the Carson City-Crystal regional.
A total of 11 Branch County wrestlers are heading to the MHSAA Individual Finals at Ford Field in Detroit March 2-3. Coldwater will have five at the State Finals while Bronson will have three. Two from Union City and one wrestler from Quincy are also heading to the Motor City.
Coldwater wrestlers advancing to states were Zoe Nowicki (4th-112), Zeke Nowicki (3rd-112), Nick Buchanan (2nd-119), Hamza Muflihi (4th-125) and Zach Miller (4th-171). Zoe Nowicki is the second female to ever advance to the Division Two State Finals.
Besides Modert and Gibson, Issac Tappendan of Bronson advanced with a fourth place finish at 140 pounds.Union City’s Nick Collyer will be joining Johns at Ford Field after his third place finish at 112 pounds.
Chandler Locke of Quincy advanced to the State Finals with a third place finish at 152 pounds in the Division Three regionals at Williamston.
