BURLINGTON, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Flood Warning for the St Joseph River at Burlington from late Thursday night until further notice.
At 12 noon Monday the stage was 4.1 feet. The flood stage is 6.5 feet. The river is expected to rise above flood stage by early Friday morning and continue to rise to near 6.7 feet by Saturday morning.
Forecasters say minor flooding of crawl spaces to homes adjacent to the river upstream is expected.
This crest compares to a previous crest of 6.6 feet on in February 2001.
The entire southern Michigan area, including Branch, Calhoun, St Joseph, and Hillsdale counties, is under a Flood Watch through Wednesday afternoon.
