COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Undersheriff Keith Eichler says seven female prisoners had to be transferred to the Lenawee County Jail Monday morning in order to relieve the overcrowding of females at the Branch County Jail.
As of midnight Sunday, there were 28 females of the 140 Branch County Jail inmates.
The jail has a rated capacity of 142 prisoners. The capacity level for the female section is 22 inmates.
Eichler says Branch County now has 13 female inmates housed at the Lenawee County Jail.
There were 112 male inmates at the Branch County Jail as of midnight Sunday night.
The female transfers Monday came after a relatively quiet weekend at the jail, as only ten inmates were booked from Friday through Sunday.
