COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Trustees approved the CBPU’s share for the cost of removing the Old U.S. 12 Bridge during their meeting Tuesday.
The total cost for removing the bridge is over $147,000, with the CBPU paying fifty percent or just under $74,000.
The Coldwater City Council approved a contract last week with E.T. MacKenzie for the demolition of the bridge, which was found to be unsafe last August following an inspection.
The bridge is currently supporting the water main that provides water to the residents of Pilot Knob. It was decided to support the water main with a new steel beam that will span the river.
In other business, the board approved a employment agreement with Director Jeff Budd that was retroactive to October 1, 2017
The agreement calls for an annual salary of $135,000 that will be reviewed annually. Budd took over as CBPU Director last fall when Paul Beckhusen left to become the General Manager of the Michigan South Central Power Agency.
