BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Bronson Community Schools Superintendent Rick Hilderley says there was a brief lock down at the Bronson Junior and Senior High School building Thursday as a precaution in response to fears over a brief social media post from a fake Instagram account.
Hilderley says the post made a vague threat and created anxiety, specifically at the junior and senior highs.
After a brief threat assessment with on site law enforcement, district administration determined that a search of the campus prior to dismissal would be conducted. There was a brief sheltering of students and staff before normal instruction resumed.
Hilderley says the dismissal of students was calm and orderly and no incidents took place.
He emphasized in a Facebook posting that at no time was a clear threat made but precautions were taken to help calm fears and ensure the safety of all. Elementary buildings were advised of the lock down but were not actively involved.
Police were present on the high school campus and at the Anderson bus transfer sight as precautions.
Hilderley is strongly urging parents to talk to their children about threats and social media. Whenever possible, threatening posts need to be captured by photo and turned over to police for investigation and they should not be shared or forwarded to anyone but law enforcement.
