COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The proposed “Lofts at Milnes Plaza” apartment project is back before the Coldwater City Council for their meeting Monday night.
The City Council be asked to introduce a draft ordinance for first reading that would implement a Payment in Lieu of tax policy. Such a policy offers an alternative to the traditional calculation for payment of local property taxes for eligible multiple family and other special residential projects. The city has previously used this type of policy for two phases of the Whispering Pines Apartments and for the Meadowview Senior Apartments.
If introduced, a second reading and final adoption is scheduled for the Council meeting March 12, 2018.
Meanwhile, the City of Coldwater is looking to sell 16 acres of vacant land for residential development for $250,000 at 600 West Chicago. The City Council will be asked on Monday night to release a Request for Qualifications for development of the former Federal Mogul property at U.S. 12 and Northshore Drive. The deadline for the RFQ’s is April 2, 2018.
City Manager Keith Baker says in a memo to the Council that accepting the RFQ’s does not commit the city to selling the property. It outlines the parameters by which the City would consider selling the property for development and what kind of development the City is seeking.
