STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – In the opening night of the girls high school basketball district tournament, Coldwater used a 29-15 third quarter to open up a close game and advanced to the district semi-final with a 78-53 victory over host Sturgis.
Coldwater opened up an early 5-0 lead before Sturgis went on a run to take a 14-7 lead. Coldwater then outscored Sturgis 20-2 to open up the game.
The Lady Cards had four players score in double figures and were led by Malorie Rzepka who had 14 points, five rebounds, five assists, and eight steals. Olivia Foley had 14 points, Tyler Scheid 13 points and Carlee Crabtree added 12 points.
Coldwater is now 19-2 and will face host Battle Creek Lakeview, who defeated Battle Creek Central 44-34, on Wednesday night at 7:00. Coverage on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB and on line at www.wtvbam.com starts at 6:45 p.m..
Harper Creek defeated Gull Lake 37-26 and will play Loy Norrix in the other semi-final game Wednesday.
Class C (Bronson)
Bronson 63, Quincy 38
Bronson built a 37-16 halftime lead as they improved their record to 15-6. Kiana Mayer led a balanced Bronson attack with 18 points. Allison Parshall led Quincy with 12 points while Madison Hinds had eight rebounds. The Orioles finished 8-13.
Union City 38, Reading 36
Allison Adams led the Chargers with 17 points. Union City is now 7-14.
Centreville 48, Homer 44
The Wednesday semifinals at Bronson will have the Vikings playing Centreville at 5:30pm followed by Union City against Mendon at 7:00 p.m.
