COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved the purchase of a pedestrian bridge to replace the soon-to-be demolished Old U.S. 12 Bridge Monday night.
The new bridge from MacKenzie Company of Ann Arbor would cost just over $61,000. They are the same company that will be removing the nearly century old bridge after an inspection last August determined it was unsafe.
City Manager Keith Baker pointed out the removal of the Old U.S 12 bridge and the installation of the pedestrian bridge would cost less than expected.
Money for the new pedestrian bridge would come from existing general fund reserves.
Meanwhile, the City Council agreed to release a Request for Qualifications for development of the former Federal Mogul property on the west side of Coldwater.
The city is looking to sell 16 acres of vacant land for residential development for $250,000. The deadline for the RFQ’s is April 2, 2018. Baker said in his letter to the Council that accepting the RFQ’s does not commit the city to selling the property.
