COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker yesterday reviewed and reinforced his comments made to the Coldwater City Council Monday night when he delivered his State of the City address at Tuesday’s meeting of the Coldwater Noon Rotary Club.
During his Rotary appearance, Baker was asked if there was a housing shortage in Coldwater and responded there definitely is, in each different kind of category, whether it’s market rate, for example, out behind the Sauk Trail and Home Depot, which are leasing up as they are built, as well as apartments downtown. According to Baker, by all accounts, based on the investments and the industries that have come to Coldwater, there is a need for housing.
Baker was also questioned on possible new inquiries about development of the long vacant property on US 12 on Coldwater’s west side which was the site of the Federal Mogul plant that closed in 1975. Baker said there wasn’t necessarily any new interest expressed to the City but he explained his office is being proactive on the property, and will be sending out the RFP request for proposal form approved by the City Council Monday night to seek developers, some of whom have already asked about the location primarily for housing projects.
