COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The two finalists to be the next Superintendent of the Branch Intermediate School District have been announced.
Following interviews involving four candidates over the last couple of days, the BISD Board of Education has selected Gogebic-Ontonagon Intermediate School District Assistant Superintendent Nicholas Steinmetz and Calhoun Intermediate School District Assistant Superintendent Kristine Jenkins as the two finalists.
Among the other candidates who interviewed this week was Union City Superintendent Patrick Kreger. There were 15 applications submitted for the Superintendent position. Whoever is selected will succeed Joe Lopez, who is retiring in July.
BISD Board President Ken Norton said, “We were very pleased to have four outstanding candidates to consider. The task of narrowing down the field to two finalists was very difficult. In the end, the Board felt these two were the best fit for the candidate profile we developed. The Board would like to thank all those who provided their input to help us develop that profile. It has been, and will be, a very important tool for us to use during the process.”
Second round interviews will take place at 6:00 pm next Monday, March 5 and Tuesday, March 6.
Open houses that will give staff and community members a chance to meet the candidates will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day in the Mall area of the Branch Area Careers Center. The interviews will take place at the Branch Area Careers Center in room 164.
Steinmetz will interview on Monday while Jenkins will be interviewed next Tuesday. Jenkins previously worked for 14 years in the Tekonsha School District where at one time she was the elementary school principal.
