COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A base bid of over $409,000 to replace the damaged Branch Area Careers Center roof was approved Wednesday by the Branch Intermediate School District Board of Education.
McDonald Roofing had the lowest of three bids submitted. With all of the alternate bids and the unit price thrown in, the total comes out to about $514,000. Business Manager Diane Shiery said the work can start once school lets out for the summer and it would take about a month to complete.
The district asked for a 20 year warranty on the work. The roof that is on the building was installed in 1997.
Shiery said the original plan called for the work to start before classes ended for summer vacation and those plans were changed during the bid meeting due to the noise as workers remove the entire roof.
In other business, the BISD board approved a three year lease with Bronson Community Schools to use rooms at the Chicago Street School for Head Start and other early childhood programs.
They also renewed a number of two year administrative contracts that will run through June of 2020. Among those getting contract renewals were Shiery, Career and technical Education Director Jamie Engel and Special Education Director Darrin Adair.
