COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In boys high school basketball, Coldwater closed out the regular season on a positive note as they defeated Portage Central 57-48 at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium Thursday night. The Cardinals snapped a 42-42 tie with 15-6 final quarter as they finished the regular season at 17-3.
Gage McGuire led the Cardinals with 18 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks. Dylan Targgart added 17 points while Brady Beckhusen had 14 points.
Portage Central defeated Coldwater in the J.V. game 48-34. Tyler Scherer and Noah Waterbury each had eight points for the Cardinals while Hunter St. Clair had seven points.
Bronson 72, Homer 59
A late January game that had to be called off because of the number of illnesses at the time in the Bronson School District was made up Thursday night and it was the Homer Trojans who were felling ill afterwards. Ethan Cossairt came close to a triple double with 18 points, nine rebounds and eight assists as the Bronson Vikings defeated Homer 72-59. Brendan Bell had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds as the Vikings improved to 12-8.
Union City 57, Mendon 55
The Union City Chargers gave the Mendon Hornets a taste of Kever Fever on Thursday night. Grady Kever scored 16 points while Larson Kever added 13 points as the Chargers won at Mendon 57-55. Union City finished the regular season 8-12. Mendon won the JV game 51-37 as Haiden Bigelow had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Chargers.

Thursday night’s scheduled game between Hillsdale and Jackson was not played because the weather prevented Jackson from traveling to Coldwater. Hillsdale will face Coldwater at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in the consolation bracket final.
