COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Voters in Kinderhook Township will decide May 8 whether or not their Township Clerk should be recalled from office.
Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak declared last Friday there were a sufficiency of recall petitions that were filed in late January against Kinderhook Township Clerk Cynthia Carpenter.
Michael Exelby filed the recall petition against Carpenter.
He has raised several issues with Carpenter, including how she has been reimbursed for mileage.
After having the petition language approved by the Branch County Elections Commission in December, Exelby had to collect 124 valid signatures to get the recall on the ballot. Exelby turned in 173 signatures, of which 166 were valid. Carpenter had 30 days to challenge the signatures but chose not to.
Carpenter defeated Exelby by 12 votes, 138-126, in the August 2016 Republican primary.
Any candidate who wants to appear on the May 8th ballot has to file at the Branch County Clerk’s Office by the end of business next Monday, March 12th.
