COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Fire Chief Rich Sherman said in his annual report to the City Council Monday night that while his department responded to more emergency calls in 2017, the number of actual fires throughout the department’s response area was the lowest in decades.
The report showed that the department responded to 1,328 emergency calls in 2017 which was a five percent increase from 2016 and a 10 percent increase from 2015.
There were a total of 1,227 of those emergency calls in the City of Coldwater with 67 percent of those calls either emergency medical or rescue related.
Sherman is proud the city has the Insurance Services Office Class 3 designation but he added this was no time to become complacent.
The report showed there was no loss of life or serious injury to civilians or firefighters in 2017 due to a fire. The last fatal fire in Coldwater took place in 2009.
