KINDERHOOK TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Branch County’s Kinderhook Township Clerk Cynthia Carpenter will be opposed by Ginger Kesler May 8 when ownship voters decide whether or not Carpenter should be recalled from office.
Carpenter is a Republican while Kesler has no party affiliation.
Michael Exelby, who lost to Carpenter by 12 votes in the August 2016 Republican Primary, filed the recall petition against Carpenter.
He has raised several issues with her, including mileage reimbursement, violating the Freedom of Information Act, replacing deputy clerks without notifying the township board and refusing to share information with the treasurer which he says has resulted in fees being charged to the township.
Candidates who wanted to appear on the May ballot had to file at the Branch County Clerk’s Office by the end of business Monday.
Meanwhile, voters in the Union City Community School District will be asked May 8, 2018 to approve the renewal of a six year building and site sinking fund millage. The renewal is for one mill, which would raise about $862,500 in 2019.
