COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – There is still a possibility a millage question for a combined Branch County public safety facility will wind up on the August ballot.
The Branch County Board of Commissioners did not make a final decision on whether or not the question would appear on the ballot in August or during the general election in November during their work session Friday.
But they were receptive to an idea from Branch County Administrator Bud Norman about options for ballot language that he would present to them during the March 29 work session.
Two previous efforts for a new county jail were turned down by Branch County taxpayers.
The final language has to be submitted to the County Clerk by May 15, 2018 for the proposal to go before voters in August.
A local citizens committee is pushing for a facility that would house the Branch County Sheriff’s Office including a new county jail, Circuit Court probation and Branch County Central Dispatch.
The Branch County 911 Communications Board has recommended to county commissioners that the ballot proposal be put off until November because they need more time to gather additional information.
