BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A one car crash Tuesday afternoon in Branch County’s Bronson Township left the woman behind the wheel injured, and she is now in the Branch County Jail pending a court appearance today on drunk driving charges.
The accident happened around 3:45 p.m. on Taggart Road north of Deer Park Road. Branch County Central Dispatch reported the 2018 Jeep Compass struck a tree with the crash being investigated by the Sheriff’s Department.
According to officials, the 48-year old Sturgis Township woman was first taken to the jail and then driven by a deputy to the hospital in Coldwater for a blood draw and treatment of minor injuries. The woman, whose name hasn’t yet been released, was booked on a charge of operating while impaired with a high blood alcohol count of .17 or above as well as OWI second offense.
A Branch County Jail Corrections Officer said a PBT preliminary breath test on the driver indicated a blood alcohol level of .20, more than twice the .08 legal limit.
Also dispatched to the scene of the crash were Life Care Ambulance and the Bronson Fire Department.
