COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was taken into custody yesterday by Coldwater City Police in connection with a 2016 fatal traffic accident.
25-year old Andrew Pitt surrendered to authorities Thursday morning after a warrant for his arrest was issued this week. The preliminary charge in the case against Pitt is reckless driving causing death, a 15 year felony.
The crash happened in the early morning hours of July 30, 2016 in Coldwater on Hull Street near Vans Avenue. According to police, arriving officers found a Chevy Cobalt that had veered off the pavement and into a tree.
Pitt and his passenger, 22-year-old Paige Graves, also of Coldwater, suffered multiple serious injuries and were both rushed to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne for emergency treatment. Graves died later that day from her injuries.
Coldwater Police said their investigation indicated excessive speed and alcohol were suspected factors in the accident.
Pitt posted a $100,000 bond yesterday morning. No date was listed for his arraignment in Branch County District Court.
