COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – With school safety under increasing scrutiny, the Coldwater Community School District is moving ahead with a training plan for school employees.
The district’s Board of Education Monday approved a three year master service agreement with the A.L.I.C.E. Training Institute out of Medina, Ohio. A.L.I.C.E. stands for Alert-Lockdown-Inform-Counter-Evacuate and is a federal Homeland Security Department program which was originally intended for the workplace.
The training provides information on what to do in case there is an active shooter or an aggressive intruder. Suyerintendent Terry Boguth says the district will host a two day training session for local schools and law enforcement agencies August 1 and 2, 2018.
Although the school calendar for 2018-2019 is still being finalized, Boguth said the first student day will be August 21, 2018.
She also said April 13 is the tentative closing date for the purchase of the Little League diamonds which is where a new fourth and fifth grade building will be constructed after a nearly $29 million millage and bonding proposal was approved by 120 votes in November.
